SELECTED WORKS ON PAPER

Watercolor and ink on paper, different sizes, 2022

When the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine began, I was at home in Kyiv, where I had been living for the past ten years. Because of this, I was forced to move to western Ukraine, taking only the most necessary items that could fit into a small backpack. For the first few weeks, I settled in a Carpathian village, where I bought paper and children's watercolor paints at the local store so I could do some work.

These works are an allusion to the events happening in Ukraine. In the photo galleries of our smartphones, personal photos mix with images of destroyed architecture from the internet, war memes, corpses of Russian soldiers, and screenshots of texts about aid. By turning the inside out, massive chunks of metal and concrete mix with dead bodies, and bombed and mutilated private interiors become accessible testimonies for everyone.
